Reader Review: Bare Escentuals bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation

I was reading your site and was delighted to see that you’re requesting feedback from your readers as to what beauty products work, and which ones don’t.

I’ve struggled with acne and dark under-eye circles for as long as I can remember. As a result, I’ve tried just about EVERY concealer and foundation there is. I find that the ones that cover the best give a very unnatural finish, or just simply don’t match my natural skin tone (I’m very pale). After YEARS of experimenting and way too much $$ spent, I was walking through Sephora on 5th Avenue between 48th and 49th Street about two years ago, and came across a brand name that I remember watching on HSN YEARS ago. The fact that this company made it from HSN to Sephora made me feel I should give it a try (especially considering that I was tempted to buy it from HSN back in the day).

The brand name is Bare Escentuals, and the miracle product that I simply can’t live without is “Bare Escentuals bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation“. It has buildable coverage that looks completely natural, and perfectly covers my blemishes, scars and under-eye circles. And because it’s a powder foundation and not liquid, it blends seamlessly with my skin tone. I remember watching the segment on HSN years ago thinking this was a great product back then, but was skeptical to purchase it at the time due to the fact that it was on television, and not something I could sample in person. I’m SO glad Sephora now carries it because I was able to see with my own eyes (and on my own skin) just how perfect it is.

Anyway, I hope this feedback was helpful. Bear Escentuals bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation (in “Fairly Light” shade) is my miracle product for covering imperfections and discoloration without looking too cakey, and if this advice helps another one of your readers, then I’m glad to offer the feedback!

I totally agree! The coverage looks natural, blends seamlessly, and best of all - this stuff is actually good for the skin. I’ve been prone to breakouts since my late teens, and I’m horribly lazy about removing makeup - a definite recipe for pizza face. With Bare Escentuals, I can actually sleep in my makeup if I’m too lazy to take it off at night… I have very few breakouts now, maybe once every couple months. I cannot say enough good things about this product.

I finally convinced my mother to try this. She has rosacea, and it has cleared up considerably since switching to this product.

I started using BE products 3 or 4 years ago on the recommendation of a whole gang of people. I cannot go back to liquid foundation. This stuff covers far better than you’d think and it feels non-existent. My skin tends to be on the dry side, especially in winter — yuk! — but using this makeup has never been a problem. Another good thing is that you can blend two (or more, I suppose) shades of foundation if you have a hard-to-match skin tone.

I do want to point out that a LOT of manufacturers have jumped on the mineral makeup bandwagon, so you can buy similar stuff at the drugstore. I have tried a couple of brands (if I’ve run out of the BE; my Sephora is about an hour away) and the only one I can recommend is by L’Oreal. I can’t remember the name of it but it’s something “bare.”

At any rate, you really should invest in the BE kabuki brush, no matter what brand of mineral makeup you use. I’ve only ever used the “original” full-coverage kabuki brush with the short handle. It is the densest (is that a word?) and gives the best coverage. I also use their concealer brush and the “flawless application” brushes for the other products, but I have not compared similar brushes of other brands, so I can only say that theirs do work very well.

Wow. I got a little carried away there. And contrary to what it seems, I’m not making any money off of this post! LOL
